Dear Families,

Our turkey looks beautiful! Thank you for spending time with your child this past week to create unique and colorful feathers for our turkey! I have uploaded the November class decorations on the “Photos” section of our website. Take a look at our class turkey, as well as some of the other projects we have done so far!

Here are some highlights for the week:
• Language Arts: We didn’t get to finish our computer dictionary letters this week since we didn’t have school on Wednesday. We will make them up next week.
o Star of the Week: Sean
o Letter of the Week: H
o Story of the Week: The Accidental Zucchini
o Phonemic Awareness: Blending and Segmenting Onset and Rime, Blending Phonemes
o Strategy Focus: Question
o Comprehension: Text Organization and Summarizing
o High-Frequency Word: a
o Concepts of Print: Word Spacing, First Letter in a Written Word

• Writing: In our journals this week, we wrote about how many family members we have. We counted the number of people in our families and talked about the difference between our immediate family and our extended family.

• Math: We practiced our numbers from 0-10. We also took an assessment test on Monday that reviewed everything we’ve learned so far in Kindergarten, including patterns, shapes, sorting, math vocabulary, and graphs.

• Social Studies: In addition to talking about Thanksgiving, we have been focusing on family this week. We read the story, Shoes From Grandpa, and talked about our families. We also talked more about turkeys and learned what Indian corn looks like.

• Assembly: We had an assembly today by the Dairy Council. We met Leona the Cow and learned about nutrition and healthy living.

• Music: The music teacher was sick on Thursday so our music was cancelled.

• Buddies: On Tuesday, we made a turkey using our hands and feet! We traced our feet on brown paper to make the turkey’s body, and then we traced our hands on colorful paper to make the turkey feathers!

• PE: We practiced jumping, hopping, and skipping this week!
