Dear Families,

It was great to see so many of you last week at the International Festival. I loved the beautiful costumes and I was so happy that many of you even performed!!! I hope you all had a great time eating good food, watching great acts, and being with our Eaton community! I enjoyed the afternoon as well!

Here are some highlights for the week:
• Star of the Week: Leah
(On our website under “Curriculum” and “Star of the Week.”)

• Letter of the Week: Y
(You can see our computer center drawings in the “Classwork” section of our website.)

• Story of the Week: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

• Language Arts: We wrote a poem this week called, “I Am” Each line of this poem began with a sentence prompt, and students had to finish each line by thinking about things that they feel or hope or want. This poem will be displayed at Open House. In our journals, we also reviewed what we learned from Earth Day. Students had to write 2 sentences reviewing ways we can help the Earth.

• Math: This week was a review of our solid shapes! Help students to identify objects at home that are shaped like a cube, cone, cylinder, sphere, pyramid, or rectangular prism! We are in our last chapter of Math already, so we will be reviewing a lot of our old concepts in the last few weeks. One of our projects is a clock book. In Friday centers, we learned how to illustrate a clock, and how to write the numbers with proper spacing between. We added an hour and minute hand as well to our clocks.

• Computer Lab: Students finished the writing portion of their Caterpillar stories in Powerpoint, and began illustrating their adapted stories in Kidpix! Students are able to go at their own pace in this project, completing one picture, or completing four pictures, depending on their focus and hard work. We will be continuing this project for the next 3 weeks before Open House.

• Science: Everyday we continue to feed our silkworms mulberry leaves and observe our silkworms growing. On Friday centers, we actually measured the length of our silkworm to show that it has grown bigger! Also, in science, we are using our senses to write about school. This week, we wrote about things that we see in school, and we illustrated our writing. We also learned how to make a pop-up picture!

• Assembly: This week, we watched the Roots Revue assembly on Friday. Also, on Thursday, we went on our field trip to the Montgomery Theater in Downtown San Jose to watch the play, “Once On This Island,” by the Children’s Musical Theater. Thank you to Edison and Kumiko’s mom for coming with us and experiencing a school bus ride! It was an amazing performance with a huge cast, live orchestra, lighting, sound, dancing, singing, and even an intermission! We were truly blown away by the talented performers, some of whom were just a little bit older than us! Thank you for being flexible with the early arrival time of 8:30am and the late dismissal!

Have a great weekend! It is May! Enjoy the sunny weather and I will see all of you on Monday!
