Dear Families,

First off, I would like to say congratulations to Yuma’s family!!! On Monday, Miyako delivered baby boy Toma! She is home now and I’m sure, very busy. Please congratulate their family and we are happy for them!

Here are some highlights for the week:
• Story of the Week: Ping Pong Pig

• Language Arts: In our journals this week, we wrote two reasons why our dads are special. We practiced talking about “transition words.” These are words such as first, next, last, then, second, etc. We also interviewed our last Star of the Week this week, Ammar!

• Math: We worked on our final chapter this week on length, weight, and capacity. We compared different objects to see which ones were longer vs. shorter, taller vs. shorter, lighter vs. heavier, or able to hold more vs. less. These are all vocabulary words we have been using in class.

• Science: On Monday, we planted our beans! We scooped and packed dirt into our cups. Then we added our beans and more dirt. Finally, we watered our plants and took them home! We have also continued observing our goldfish and guppies. Our silkworms are still in their cocoons!

• Specials: Since it is the end of the year, all of our special activities are over. Our last library visit was on Monday and Mrs. Glass read us books. We are not going to computer lab anymore, and we also have no more art or music classes. We will see all the same teachers next year in first grade!

• Music: As many of you know, we are preparing for our musical performance for you on the last day of school! This week we started practicing our lines! We each will be narrating a part of our performance (about 2 sentences). These sentences will be going home on Monday for homework. Please have your child memorize and practice these sentences just like sharing. They should be standing still, looking at the audience, speaking loudly and clearly, and speaking with a good pace! Please plan on coming to our performance on the last day of school!

On Wednesday, we had a Volunteer Tea for the parents that have been helping out on a weekly or bi-weekly basis during this year. We also made a poster to say thank you to these parents! It has been so helpful to have consistent help throughout the year. Thank you for sharing your time and energy with our class!!!

Next Friday will be her last day with us. I told the children they can bring cards or gifts for her next Friday!

Have a wonderful weekend!
